National Portrait Gallery Scotland

In 2015 I visited the National Portrait Gallery in London for the British Portrait Awards. With art selected from 2748 entries by artist from 92 countries around the world, the BP portrait awards 2015 represented the very best in contemporary portrait painting of 2015. When looking around at all of the different styles and techniques of peoples portraits the quality of every piece amazed me, it's not often when you go to an exhibition and every piece of work amazes you, however at the BP awards this was the case. with work ranging from abstract to messy takes on classic portraits to hyper-realism, i could not pick a specific favorite. When looking at the prize winners of the competition the top 3 are outstanding, however I would have placed them differently; I think that the second place portrait was better than the first place portrait in my opinion. The reason I liked the second place portrait the most is because it captures every detail perfectly, the expression in the face is life-like and the paining is photo realistic, what i would call an alost perfect portrait it captures so much more emotion and depth in comparison to the first place portrait which is more like a landscape, not focusing on the faces so much and more the whole picture setting, whilst the second place portrait is just plain and simple. I overall had an amzing time looking through this exhibition.
