Sidaway is an artist that focus' on the tone of his paintings so they match their "neighbor" tone as he described. This is easily seen in his "Window with Irises" painting (oil on canvas, 137cm x 114cm) as he keeps all of the tones correct in correct relation to each other so the natural light of his paintings appears very bright and distinct. I really like the style of his paintings as they are very minimalistic in the way that they aren't over-crowded, as it consists of a plain background with a gradient tone leading towards the natural light where there is very clear bright lines that lead to the main object, in this case a bunch of Irises. The main reason I am attracted to Ian's work is because of the precision in the painting, how all of the lines are neet and straight with harsh contrasts between shadow and light, creating a great affect.
